Work Product

a core abstract method component that models anything of value that is produced, used, modified, or destroyed during the performance of one or more work units by one or more collaborating producers

Work Product Set

a cohesive set of a work products (e.g., those produced by the tasks of a single activity)

Work Product Version

a uniquely identified complete release or re-release of a work product at a specific point in time that is created during an incremental or iterative development process

Responsibilities

The typical responsibilities of a Work Product is to:

• Model anything of value that is produced by a producer during the performance of one or more tasks.
• Define the reusable deliverable and non-deliverable products that may be produced on an endeavor.

Work Product Sets

Work products are typically organized into the following work product sets based on the activities during which they are produced:

• Architecture Work Products,
  which is the cohesive collection of all work products produced during the architecting activity.
• Content Management Work Products,
  which is the cohesive collection of all work products produced during the content management activity.
• Configuration Management Work Products,
  which is the cohesive collection of all work products produced during the configuration management activity.
• Deployment Work Products,
  which is the cohesive collection of all work products produced during the deployment activity.
• Design Work Products,
  which is the cohesive collection of all work products produced during the design activity.

• In a sense, work products are the most important kind of OPF component because the primary reason customer organizations pay development organizations is to deliver valuable work products.
• Work products may be inputs or outputs of work units.
• Work products may or may not be deliverable to customer and user organizations.
• Work products may be composed of other work units.
