Disaster Preparation

task during which the endeavor
prepares for potential
disasters.
The typical objectives of disaster preparation are to:
- Prepare for any potential disaster to the endeavor.
Disaster preparation can begin when the following
preconditions hold:
- The project has started.
- The
disaster recovery team is adequately staffed and trained
in disaster preparation.
Disaster preparation is complete when the following
postconditions hold:
- All planned disaster preparation steps have been
performed.
Disaster preparation typically involves the
disaster recovery team performing the following steps in an
incremental, iterative, parallel, and time-boxed manner:
- Read the disaster preparation section of the disaster
recovery plan.
- Perform the planned steps to prepare for potential
disasters listed in the disaster recovery plan.
- Update the disaster status report.

all or part of the following work products:
- The disaster preparationsections of the:
- Never store information backups in the same building as
the originals.
- Maintain an accruate inventory of hardware and software
components that may require replacement.
- Consider setting up an alternative Web-based e-mail
system for emergency communication with employees.
- Practice restoring systems from backup so that it can be
done efficiently in case of disaster.
